What Is Cryopen? A Safe Treatment For Skin Lesion Removal

Updated: Jul 17

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed a pesky skin tag, an unwanted wart or a stubborn sunspot that just won't go away? You’re not alone! These common skin lesions can be frustrating, but the good news is that there’s a simple, effective and safe solution -  Cryopen.

Here at Sorella Aesthetics, we’re excited to expand our medical services with the introduction of Cryopen! In this blog, Nurse Georgi explores why the treatment could be the perfect solution for you.

What Is Cryopen?

Cryopen is a cutting-edge device used in dermatology and aesthetics to remove skin lesions with precision and minimal discomfort. It uses extreme cold - specifically liquid nitrogen - to target and eliminate unwanted skin cells in a process known as Cryosurgery

The Cryopen is a pen-like instrument that delivers a controlled, precise burst of cold directly to the lesion. This freezes the cells, causing them to die and eventually fall off, allowing healthy skin to grow in their place. The treatment is quick and can be performed right here in our Ashford clinic.

Cryopen is a certified medical treatment, meaning that it can only be carried out by a medical practitioner like Nurse Georgi.

What Can The Skin Lesion Removal Tool Treat?

Cryopen is a versatile treatment, meaning it can effectively treat a range of skin lesions! At Sorella Aesthetics, here are some common conditions that Nurse Georgi can address.

  • Skin Tags - These small, benign growths often appear in areas where skin rubs against clothing, such as the neck, armpits or groyne. Whilst harmless, they can be annoying and unsightly.

  • Warts - Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), warts can appear anywhere on the body but are most common on the hands and feet. They can be stubborn and difficult to remove with over-the-counter treatments.

  • Sunspots - Also known as age spots or liver spots, these flat, brown patches often appear on areas of the skin exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands and arms.

  • Seborrheic Keratoses - These are non-cancerous growths that can appear as brown, black, or pale spots on the face, chest, shoulders and back. They're usually benign but can become irritated or inflamed.

  • Benign Moles - Cryopen can also treat a variety of other benign moles and milia. However, Nurse Georgi will have to check and assess the mole first to ensure it’s non-cancerous.

What Are The Benefits Of Cryopen?

Cryopen is a popular choice for those seeking to remove unwanted skin lesions safely and effectively! Here are some of the treatment’s benefits in more detail.

  • Precision - Cryopen allows for targeted treatment, meaning only the lesion is affected whilst the surrounding skin remains untouched. This precision reduces the risk of scarring and speeds up the healing process.

  • Minimal Discomfort - Most patients describe the sensation during Cryopen treatment as a slight stinging or cooling sensation.

  • Quick Recovery - Cryopen treatments require little to no downtime. You can typically return to your regular activities immediately after the procedure, making it a convenient option for those with busy schedules.

  • Effective Results - Cryopen has a high success rate in removing various types of skin lesions. Patients often see improvement within a few days to a couple of weeks as the treated lesion falls off and new, healthy skin emerges.

  • Non-Invasive - Cryopen is a non-surgical treatment, meaning there’s no need for cuts, stitches or lengthy recovery periods. This makes it an attractive option for those looking for a less invasive approach to skin lesion removal.

Are There Any Disadvantages To Cryopen?

Whilst Cryopen is a fantastic option for many, it’s important to consider the potential drawbacks. After the treatment, it’s common to experience some redness, swelling or blistering in the treated area. However, these temporary side effects usually subside within a few days. Moreover, whilst the treatment is excellent for many types of benign lesions, it’s not suitable for malignant or suspicious lesions.
