New Year New Skin; The Best Treatments For Acne Scarring

Did you know that one in five people suffer from acne scarring? The concern is one of the most stubborn to improve! However, there are treatments that can help refine your skin’s appearance.

Acne scarring on a woman

At Sorella Aesthetics, we're frequently asked about acne scarring! A result of tissue damage from breakouts, scarring occurs when the body works hard to heal wounds. In turn, this will trigger collagen production. However, when too little or too much collagen is produced, we’re often left with scarring.

In 2024, we’re on a mission to help you achieve your best skin. Previously, we delved into Polynucleotides, the best treatments for acne and aged skin. And in our final week, we’re exploring the best treatments for acne scarring.

*Spoiler, we’re launching a new treatment for acne scarring which we think you’ll love!*

The Best Treatments For Acne Scarring

The best treatments for acne scarring will ultimately depend on your skin type, alongside the level of damage to your skin tissue. Generally however, Microneedling, Retinols, Chemical Peels and Polynucleotides provide the best outcomes.

Microneedling

Say hello to our newest treatment at Sorella Aesthetics, Microneedling! A skin procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles, Microneedling helps to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tone.

In a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Microneedling can reduce the appearance of acne scarring by up to 70%. This makes it one of the most effective treatments for the skin concern.

Nnlike some facial rejuvenation procedures that use heat, light or lasers, Microneedling doesn’t carry the risk of skin discolouration. As soon as the deepest layers of your skin are penetrated by the needles, your body’s wound healing processes are triggered. However, long term results won't begin to take effect until four to six weeks after your initial session.

At our New Year New Skin event on Sunday 4th February, Nurses Danni and Georgi will launch Microneedling at our aesthetic clinic in Hampshire with a live demonstration! There’s still some tickets left, which you can purchase here.

Microneedling treatment

CellDerma Retin-ACE

Retinoids are one of the most effective treatments for acne scarring! And our top pick is CellDerma’s Rein-ACE Resurfacing Night Serum

Featuring powerful antioxidants Vitamin C and E for enhanced brightening, resurfacing and firming of the skin, the retinol-based product helps to smooth uneven texture and fade the appearance of dark spots and scars. With continued use, it even supports new skin cell turnover to reduce future breakouts.

If you haven’t used retinol before, you can seek advice from Nurses Danni and Georgi at a consultation in our skin clinic in Ashford.

Chemical Peels

A Chemical Peel is a technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin. Using a natural blend of acids and enzymes, the treatment exfoliates the epidermis and dermis layer of your skin to kickstart cell turnover. As a result, new, healthier skin presents in its place.

For acne scarring, a medical-grade medium or deep Chemical Peel is typically required. Over the counter home peels, which are usually weaker in nature for health and safety reasons, are unlikely to give your skin the degree of peeling necessary. At Sorella Aesthetics, we recommend investing in the treatment once every two months for optimum results. This will give your skin enough time to heal in between sessions.

Polynucleotides treatment

Polynucelotides

We’re sure you’ve heard us rave about Polynucleotides over the last month! The treatment is new to our clinic, and it has already taken the world by storm.

Derived from fragments of DNA, the injectable skin booster un-regulates fibroblast cells to boost the production of collagen and elastin. As a result, tissue regeneration is improved to reveal a brighter, even textured skin tone. You can learn more about the treatment here, alongside its benefits for acne-prone skin.
